At Well Suited for Work, we know that finding a full-time job takes the time, effort and commitment of a full-time job! Between repetitive applications, keeping up with current postings on a variety of different platforms and preparing for interviews, it's no wonder that folks become discouraged. We also know that a crucial ingredient to a successful job search is confidence. So how do you maintain confidence, fight discouragement and frustration throughout the application process? Our Tip: Work Smarter NOT HarderWithin the application process alone, there a number of ways to streamline your process, focus on what's important and ensure that with each application, you are presenting your best self!
. 1. Schedule Your Time: Block out specific times throughout the week when you are most motivated and productive. Put it on your calendar and hold yourself to it! We recommend dedicating time at least 3-4 times per week to your search and applications. . 2. Be Timely: Don't waste your time and efforts applying for positions that may already be filled or are half-way there! Filter your searches to only include positions posted within the past 5-7 days. Certain industries or position levels may set a quicker or slower pace. However, 1 week is typically a good rule of thumb! . 3. Be Efficient: Some applications can be completed with only a few clicks, while others may require you to create a platform-specific account and provide information manually in spite of being visible on your resume! Maintaining a file on your computer of information typically needed for applications can allow you to breeze through those which require you to create an account or fill in fields already listed in your cover letter and resume. #BonusTip: Keeping a separate file with details of the applications you've completed can help you respond better when invited to an interview and can give you a jump start on your prep as well! . 4. Be Confident: Many postings include the "Required" education and experience that an employer is looking for in a qualified candidate, while others may list "Preferred" qualifications. Pay attention to the difference between these two and stretch yourself to reach for positions that excite you...even if you don't "check all the boxes". Of course, you don't want to limited yourself by only applying for those reach opportunities, but take a risk! What's the worst that can happen? . 5: Take Breaks: You're not going to present your best self when you're overwhelmed and tired. So don't forget to take care of yourself during your job search! Take breaks, clear your head, and return to your applications refreshed and excited! . You have already committed to your career in beginning your search! Don't let the devotion end there. If your search is like the majority of jobseekers', it will take time. It takes employers time to screen candidates, review applications and schedule interviews. So be patient with employers and with yourself...AND if you don't hear back, be sure to follow up! . Remember: each application represents another opportunity to build your career. How will you utilize those opportunities? . #CareerTipTuesday #ApplicationTips #Career #ClothingConfidenceCareer
